The Philadelphia 76ers are in the midst of looking to take the next step in the Eastern Conference in the middle of free agency, but they also had a rather strong NBA draft.
With the No. 16 pick in Round 1, the Sixers selected Duke guard Jared McCain who averaged 14.3 points and 5.0 rebounds while shooting 41.4% from deep as a freshman for the Blue Devils. He comes in looking to make an impact as a shooter on this team as well as help on the glass and as another ball-handler.
Cody Taylor of Rookie Wire gave the Sixers a high grade for the McCain pick. He gave the team an ‘A-‘ for the pick:
McCain emerged as a tremendous shooter and excelled in pick-and-roll situations with the Blue Devils. He is a high-level floor spacer and gives the Sixers a tough-minded player who will compete every night.
McCain is unlikely to play right away as he will need to grow and develop as a player, but on paper, he fills plenty of needs for the Sixers. One has to believe that he will be a big help for Philadelphia in the long run.
