Sixers react to Danny Green’s game-changing triples in win over Nets

The Philadelphia 76ers react to Danny Green’s big triples in the win over the Brooklyn Nets.

The Philadelphia 76ers had a fully healthy squad against the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday and they were able to come away with a 124-108 win at home. They received big performances from Joel Embiid, Tobias Harris, and Ben Simmons, but it was the veteran shooter who made some big shots to turn the game.

Danny Green was called for a technical foul in the third quarter after taking a hit on a 3-pointer he took and he did not get the call. That caused him to take exception and he argued with the official to try and get a call, but he was called for a tech.

That then set Green off and he knocked down two wide-open triples in transition to give Philadelphia an 87-79 lead. That then jump-started the Sixers to end the quarter on a 23-7 run and take a 102-86 lead into the fourth.

“I thought that was a big turning point in the game, really,” said coach Doc Rivers. “He gets a tech and then we get a couple of stops, we start pushing the ball up, that was a key going into the game. We felt like we can attack the paint in transition and it would lead to 3s and that’s what happened.”

The Sixers did score 62 points in the paint as they took advantage of the Nets and their porous defense, but the triples by Green really did begin that start for Philadelphia. It gave them some life.

“Just really big shots that he was making,” said Harris. “One of them, we all thought he got hit there, but he came right back made two in a row, and we were just looking for him in the fast break. He gets to the corner, they’re a helping team and he was able to get two good ones that just gave us a spark, a boost.”

Green had a legitimate gripe for not getting the call. He took a hit that affected his shot and that energy as a team allowed Philadelphia to continue to keep rolling. The important part was, they were able to use that to spur them to a victory.

“We were all pissed off because he didn’t get the call in the left-hand corner,” laughed Simmons. “It is what it is, we played through it, good things happened, and we stuck with it.”

The Sixers will now have two days off before beginning a west coast road trip on Tuesday against the Sacramento Kings.
