Sixers pushing Tyrese Maxey to take on more ISOs on offensive end

The Philadelphia 76ers are pushing Tyrese Maxey to be more aggressive as an isolation scorer.

The Philadelphia 76ers have two elite scorers on their roster, Joel Embiid and James Harden. They will determine how far the Sixers go. They are the engine of this machine.

However, one cannot forget about Tyrese Maxey, who is one of Philadelphia’s top scorers and part of the team’s Big 3.

Maxey scored a career-high 44 points in Friday’s win over the Toronto Raptors, and he was a big part of Saturday’s win over the Chicago Bulls. The Sixers have been pushing Maxey to be much more aggressive on the offensive end.

Coach Doc Rivers said per Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer:

“I thought tonight it was important, because it was James,” Rivers said Friday of Harden deferring. “He just kept giving it to him. And I kept telling Tyrese, ‘Isos are good for you, too.’”

“But … the kid can play,” coach Doc Rivers said, “and we’ve just got to keep trusting him and keep giving him the ball. Each night like (Friday) gives everyone more confidence to do it.”

Maxey is one of the top scorers and can be a big boost on the floor. Philadelphia should absolutely rely on Harden and Embiid, but it would be in their best interest to ensure Maxey gets his fair share of looks in isolation situations as well.
