We continue our look back at the playoff history of the Philadelphia 76ers by highlighting the bigger games in their franchise history. For this edition, we head back to 2019 when Philadelphia took on the Toronto Raptors in the semifinals.
After Jimmy Butler came through with a big game in Toronto to lead the Sixers to a big Game 2 win, Philadelphia had the home-court advantage. Despite that, they would receive a big battle from Kawhi Leonard, Kyle Lowry, Marc Gasol, and Pascal Siakam.
To combat that, the Sixers unleashed Joel Embiid.
The big fella broke away from the tough defense of Gasol to have a big game on the floor and he had some fun while doing so. He had 33 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists to lead Philadelphia to a 116-95 win and a 2-1 series lead. To put the exclamation point on it, he drove down the lane and threw it down on Gasol before running down the floor with an airplane celebration.
The win put the Sixers fully in the driver’s seat with a 2-1 series lead. Now, it would be up to Embiid, Butler, and Ben Simmons to ensure Philadelphia closes out Toronto and took advantage of being at home in Game 4. [lawrence-related id=38950,38947,38941]
