Sixers Playoff Rewind: Allen Iverson drops 54 on the Raptors in 2001

We wind the clocks back to 2001 when Allen Iverson lifted the Philadelphia 76ers past the Toronto Raptors in the playoffs.

The playoff rewind series continues as we take a look back at one of the more entertaining playoff series in Philadelphia 76ers history. Led by Allen Iverson, the Sixers were having a terrific season and they ran into a formidable opponent in Vince Carter and the Toronto Raptors in Round 2 of the playoffs.

Toronto took Game 1 on the road, and the Sixers needed a win in the worst way to avoid an 0-2 hole. In these situations, it is customary for a league MVP to go out and get the job done. Iverson did that and then some.

The 6-foot guard from Georgetown went to work, putting on an electric performance: 54 points on 21-for-39 shooting along with five rebounds and four assists to lead Philadelphia to a 97-92 win. Iverson was absolutely sensational all night long, and he had the Philadelphia crowd in a frenzy.

Iverson’s heroic performance gave Philadelphia momentum heading north to Canada, and they will need to continue to play with that effort. Carter and the Raptors would surely have an answer as the series shifts to the Air Canada Centre.
