Sixers’ Paul Reed talks attacks from Lakers fans from Anthony Davis quote

Philadelphia 76ers big man Paul Reed discusses the attacks he received from Los Angeles Lakers fans regarding his quote on Anthony Davis.

Philadelphia 76ers big man Paul Reed ruffled some feathers a bit for the people out in Los Angeles when he made a comment about Lakers big man Anthony Davis.

Reed was asked what the keys are to defending a special talent like Davis and Reed called him a “big flopper”. Of course, Reed didn’t mean to call him a flopper, but that’s just the way things ended up coming out.

A lot of Lakers fans on X (formerly Twitter) directed their ire toward Reed and let him know about their disgust with the comment. The big man discussed the attacks he received from Lakers fans and explained that he didn’t mean to call Davis a flopper on his podcast, “Out Da Mud”:

Please be advised that the clip below contains language that some might consider offensive!

What did I say? I don’t remember saying nothing crazy? I go and check Twitter and it’s hella Lakers fans on my ass gang! I’m talking about ‘I hope your mom dies! You (expletive) suck! You ain’t (expletive). You a backup center!’ And I’m like ‘Damn! Get off this man!’

I play with Joel (Embiid), man! Being in the NBA, everybody knows how to draw fouls. I mean, I shouldn’t have said—I could have worded it differently. I think that would have helped the situation a lot better… I didn’t say he sorry. I didn’t say all that. I was just saying—I should have said he know how to draw fouls real well and I got to stay out of foul trouble.

Reed is a humble player who respects the talent around the league. Yes, he said what he said, but he didn’t mean that. He knows he should have worded it differently and this is a learning lesson for him in the future.
