After the Philadelphia 76ers made the big trade with the Brooklyn Nets to acquire James Harden, the expectation was that they would not have a first-round draft pick in 2022 due to sending the pick to the Nets.
However, the Nets had the option of deferring the pick until 2023 and before the 5 p.m. EDT June 1 deadline date to make that decision, they did precisely that.
Due to the way the Sixers ended the season, and how the picks worked from the Harden trade, Philadelphia will now have the No. 23 pick in the first round of the draft set for June 23 at Barclays Center.
ESPN Sources: The Brooklyn Nets are deferring acquisition of the Philadelphia 76ers 2022 first-round pick at No. 23 to the 2023 NBA Draft. The option on pushing back pick comes out of the James Harden-Ben Simmons trade. Nets had to inform the league office of decision today.
