The Philadelphia 76ers made a draft-night trade that a lot of people were expecting on Thursday when they sent the No. 23 pick as well as Danny Green to the Memphis Grizzlies in order to acquire De’Anthony Melton. The Sixers needed a legitimate two-way player and that is exactly what Melton can bring to the table.
Melton is a legitimate two-way player who can knock down a 3-ball on one end and bother the hell out of his opponents on the other. He averaged 10.8 points and 4.5 rebounds for the Grizzlies in the 2021-22 season and he shot 37.4% from deep as he was a big piece off their bench. That is the same role he will fill in Philadelphia.
As for a guy like Green, his $10 million salary for the 2022-23 season has been guaranteed in this deal. It is good on his end after he tore his ACL in the Game 6 loss to the Miami Heat. He is a well-respected veteran who deserves his money at this stage of his career.
