Sixers March Madness: Glenn Robinson III leads Michigan to advancement

We dive into the March Madness run put on by Philadelphia 76ers forward Glenn Robinson III.

The outbreak of COVID-19 has taken over the sports world with the professional sports in suspension and the cancellation of the NCAA Tournament. So, Sixers Wire will bring back some of the best moments of March Madness for the current Philadelphia 76ers.

We first started with big man Al Horford who began the 2007 title defense for Florida with a win over Jackson State and we will continue down that path again for sure, but Saturday’s edition will be Glenn Robinson III with the Michigan Wolverines. The 4 seed Wolverines began with a matchup against the 13 seed South Dakota State Jackrabbits.

March 21, 2013

Michigan was on upset alert heading into this matchup. While Michigan was laced with NBA talent up and down their roster, South Dakota State had an NBA talent of their own in Nate Wolters who was shooting up some draft boards thanks to his 2-way ability.

Wolters did a great job on Trey Burke early making him almost invisible out there and Michigan had to rely on their other pieces. That is where Glenn Robinson III, as well as Time Hardaway Jr., stepped up and performed. Robinson III finished with 21 points, with 17 coming in the second half, on 8-for-9 shooting to help Michigan pull away 71-56 and advance to the Round of 32.

Robinson III told reporters about his hot shooting after the win:

My confidence has always been there, but tonight the ball just felt right coming out of my hand. It hasn’t felt like that for a while, but when I started hitting shots, my teammates went right back to me. That’s the way this team plays. Even when Trey isn’t hitting shots, he’s making passes and getting us open shots.

It was an impressive performance for the freshman who was one of three to start for Michigan in this game. The Wolverines had a bit of a home-court advantage due to the game being played at the Palace of Auburn Hills, the former home of the Detroit Pistons, and they definitely took advantage of it.

Michigan would move on to the Round of 32 to take on the VCU Rams in Auburn Hills. [lawrence-related id=27891,27882,27868]
