Sixers lose Tyrese Maxey to back spasms in preseason matchup vs. Nets

The Philadelphia 76ers lose Tyrese Maxey to back spasms in their preseason matchup with the Brooklyn Nets.

NEW YORK — The Philadelphia 76ers were already without a number of key pieces in their preseason matchup with the Brooklyn Nets on Monday. Then they lost their rising star in the first half.

Tyrese Maxey, who had eight points and two assists, left in the first half for the locker room. Shortly before halftime, the team said he will not return due to back spasms.

This was a tough blow for Philadelphia, which needs Maxey to take steps forward as a playmaker. This injury forces him to lose some reps.

Again, it is just the preseason. So the result of this game does not matter. The key is keeping everybody healthy and making sure everybody is ready when the season begins on Oct. 26. It’s tough to lose Maxey right now, but the Sixers would rather have him ready for when the games count.
