The Philadelphia 76ers are entering an exciting era of their franchise history as they have their first head coach in seven seasons.
After firing Brett Brown as the result of a disappointing 2019-20 season, the team has brought in Doc Rivers to replace him to usher in the next era. Rivers brings a lot of success and credibility to the position and there is hope that he can turn the team around moving forward.
Franchise legend Julius Erving sat down with Lauren Rosen of the Sixers’ official website and he had was excited about the hire of Rivers:
“I fell out of my chair! I was like, ‘Whoa! Man, that’s awesome,’” Erving said. “I am amped – absolutely – that he is the coach of the Sixers.”
Philadelphia is a team that boasts a lot of history and a lot of legends that have graced their uniform and Erving is one of those aforementioned legends. If he can sign off on a guy like Rivers, maybe the Sixers can really move forward with this roster and he can lead them into a new, successful era of Sixers basketball.
