Sixers’ Kelly Oubre Jr. talks scuffle with Knicks, rematch on Tuesday

Philadelphia 76ers forward Kelly Oubre Jr. discusses the scuffle with the New York Knicks as well as the rematch on Tuesday.

NEW YORK — In the second half of an ugly 79-73 victory over the New York Knicks on Sunday, the Philadelphia 76ers and the Knicks got into a bit of a scuffle.

Kelly Oubre Jr., who had 18 points and 10 rebounds on the night, got into it with Knicks guard Donte DiVincenzo and both teams began to get into a pushing and shoving match along the baseline. It looked as if Oubre was tackled to the ground by DiVincenzo on the replay.

In the end, DiVincenzo and Isaiah Hartenstein were called for technicals for New York while Paul Reed was called for one for Philadelphia. Oubre just smiled and brushed it off after the win.

“It’s just frustrations,” Oubre said of the scuffle. “It’s the game of basketball — high energy, we’re in The Garden, but I ain’t got no enemies in this league. All of that stuff’s funny to me. I don’t know why. I just laugh, because nobody’s going to fight. So at the end of the day, I’ll see you Tuesday, bro.”

The Sixers do play the Knicks in New York again on Tuesday. Philadelphia will be looking to score much more than the 79 points they had on Sunday, but they also know New York will score more than 73.

Oubre also believes that a certain somebody will return to the floor.

“It’ll be more physical, faster paced, obviously higher scoring,” Oubre explained. “We’ve just got to do a little bit of what we did tonight, but better, and catch their counter-attacks, because I’m sure Thibs (Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau) is going to yell at them for two, three days and get them fired up, but we’re fired up, too. I don’t even think we played our best tonight. I didn’t in the second half, but at the end of the day, guys stepped up, and we’ll do the same with Tyrese (Maxey) back.”
