Sixers’ Joel Embiid had priceless reaction to a Paul Reed dunk

Paul Reed only played in the fourth quarter on Monday, but the Philadelphia 76ers rookie made the most of his time on the court with his team up by over 30 points.

Reed produced 10 points, while he hauled in a career-high nine rebounds and blocked two shots in just over 10 minutes of work in the fourth quarter. He grabbed five offensive rebounds during his brief stint, which accounted for half of the Sixers’ rebounds on that end of the floor.

The performance by Reed came just two days after he was entered into the health and safety protocols. He was cleared to play and his outing earned a quick shout-out from Ben Simmons afterward.

“I think the energy was great tonight,” Simmons said. “Everyone was playing their role, doing their thing all night long, especially that third unit that came in also. Paul was dominating at times. Everyone was playing together, playing hard.”

The showing by Reed even earned quite a reaction from Joel Embiid at one point on the bench. Reed threw down a strong putback dunk over a defender that got Embiid and the rest of the bench out of their seats.

With Simmons and Embiid both back in the lineup on Monday, Reed’s effort was hardly the headline from the game but it showed he is capable of stepping in and contributing off the bench. It should do wonders for his confidence level moving forward.
