The Philadelphia 76ers brought in Seth Curry from the Dallas Mavericks due to the fact that he can shoot the basketball. He is a career 44.3% shooter from deep and that is going to make life so much easier for Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid to operate.
However, the Sixers also need a guy who can put the ball on the floor and create for himself and others. Curry believes that he can do that as well and he wants to be known as a scorer rather than just a shooter.
According to NBA Stats, he shoots 50.4% on pull up midrange shots and he shoots 48.1% on shots where he has to take somewhere between 3 and 6 dribbles.
“Just working on it every day to find those positions where I can continue to get my shots every night,” Curry explained. “I know my 3-point reputation and the way I can shoot the ball, they’re not just going to let me catch and shoot all game and do that over and over again. I need to find ways to be effective on the offensive end.”
Standing at just that 6-foot-2, Curry is not a big player. He is a guy who has to work on a lot of different aspects of his game to be able to be effective on the offensive end. That work ethic is going to help him improve his game and it will help give the Sixers exactly what they need which is a perimeter scorer.
“When I step on the floor every game, I’m focusing on where I can get my shots, how I can get good shots that I know I can make at a high clip and that’s pretty much my thought process,” he added. “I think that throughout my career, I’ve gotten better at creating shots and not just being a 3-point shooter. I’ve been able to put it on the floor and score at the rim at all three levels and that opens up more 3-point shots for me. I’ve been able to develop different areas of my game which allowed the best part of my game to be even better.”
Curry won’t be an explosive 20-to-30 points per game scorer, but his ability to put the ball on the floor from the perimeter and score at an efficient level has been something that this team has been in desperate need of.
That will then open up things not just for Simmons and Embiid, but even for Curry to get off more open looks from deep.
“When I put the ball on the floor and be able to get to the hole or shoot the midrange, that allows my 3-point shot to open up and for me to get better looks from behind the arc,” he finished with. “I got to be effective from all areas, especially at my size because I can’t always get to the rim to finish.” [lawrence-related id=39478,39469,39466]
