Sixers guard Seth Curry gives update on health, should play vs. Celtics

Philadelphia 76ers guard Seth Curry gives an update on his health and he believes he should return on Friday.

Philadelphia 76ers guard Seth Curry will be looking to return to the floor on Friday against the Boston Celtics for the first time since Jan. 6 after he tested positive for COVID on Jan. 7. He recently cleared the league’s health and safety protocols, but the Sixers wanted to give him more time for his conditioning.

At shootaround on Friday morning, the veteran guard out of Duke gave an update on how he is feeling ahead of Friday’s matchup.

“I’m feeling good,” said Curry. “I’m just a little fatigued at times still, but I’m feeling good. I’m ready to get back out on the court and get my conditioning back, my rhythm back, and that’s pretty much it.”

The Sixers have been in need of Curry’s play on the floor as he was averaging 17.0 points and shooting a blistering 59.5% from deep. His ability to space the floor for Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid to operate was a key reason for the team’s success on offense.

As he gets set to return to the lineup, he did a lot of individual work with assistant coaches in order to get back into playing shape.

“Just really individual workouts,” he explained. “I had some 3-on-3, 4-on-4 with the coaches and some of the younger guys who haven’t been playing as many minutes lately. Just trying to get some conditioning back, getting my body used to moving, and getting a lot of treatment with the trainers. Kind of like summer and offseason workouts trying to get back in shape.”

During the time Curry was away, the Sixers had to rely on a lot of younger players such as rookies Tyrese Maxey and Isaiah Joe to step in and provide good play. The rookies did their best and that is what excited Curry.

“The guys did a great job of holding the fort,” he said. “Especially the younger guys who were having to ramp up the minutes in what was kind of an unfair situation to them just having to ramp up a lot of minutes (after) not really playing at all the first couple of weeks. The younger guys did a great job of holding the fort down and filling in for us.”

As for his status for Friday, the guard believes he will make his return to the floor.

“Yes,” he stated. “I should play.”

The Sixers and the Celtics will tipoff at 7:30 p.m. EST from the Wells Fargo Center.
