Sixers guard Isaiah Joe praises star Tobias Harris for his leadership

Philadelphia 76ers guard Isaiah Joe praises Tobias Harris for his leadership within the team.

For a Philadelphia 76ers team trying to compete for a championship, it is important they have the right leadership in place for everything to go smoothly.

At the moment, the Sixers are going through a very tumultuous time. Ben Simmons, the 25-year old All-Star, has not reported to the team, and it’s clear he has mentally checked out to force his way out of Philadelphia.

Therefore, the Sixers need somebody to hold the team together. At the moment, that guy is Tobias Harris.

The soft-spoken example of efficiency has continued to use his voice to keep everybody on the same page. He continues to provide a good example on and off the floor, and he has earned the respect of his teammates.

“When you hear him talk, he knows everything that’s going down all the time,” says second-year guard Isaiah Joe. “He knows where everybody needs to be, and as we’re going through this working on different schemes, moving the ball, working on different defensive schemes, he is the head of it all. Tobias, he’s kind of the head of the snake.”

Not only has Harris been keeping the team together, but he is also one of the the bigger voices getting the younger players up to speed. Joe has benefited from his leadership since he came into the league.

“He’s been great,” Joe added. “He’s been a great vet since last year as soon as I got here on the team, and he’s in our corner from Day 1. I appreciate that. He really helps bring the team together, and I think that’s one thing we really needed, especially this year.”

As for Joe, he continues to add to his game. Playing alongside Harris, he has learned he has to be able to put the ball on the floor and create for others. He can’t just be a 3-point shooter.

“That’s one thing I’ve always been working on aside my shooting to always work on my ball-handling,” the second-year guard added. “You never know when you’re gonna have to put the ball on the floor and either create for yourself or other teammates like Tobias. We predicate our game on moving the ball so that comes with attacking, getting to the lane, and spraying out to other people so that’s one thing I’ve been working on.”

Harris will have to continue to be a leader for this team as it navigates troubled waters amid the Simmons situation.
