Sixers guard Furkan Korkmaz leads Turkey to win over the Czech Republic

Philadelphia 76ers guard Furkan Korkmaz had a big game to lead Turkey to a win over the Czech Republic.

The Philadelphia 76ers had their season end a bit prematurely as they fell to the Atlanta Hawks in Game 7 at home in the Eastern semifinals. The Sixers were the No. 1 seed in the East and they were not able to take advantage of the opportunity.

As they head into the offseason, there is still more basketball to be played for some of the Sixers.

Furkan Korkmaz, for example, is playing for his native Turkey in the Olympics.

“I’m planning to play with the national team,” Korkmaz said after the Game 7 loss on June 20. “I’m gonna talk to my federation. That’s probably the first thing I’m gonna do because there’s not enough time right now where I can rest and then join the team. I just need to talk and then fly and just be a part of the team.”

On Wednesday, he had a big day scoring 20 points to go along with four rebounds to lead Turkey to an 87-70 win over the Czech Republic in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament. They advance to the semifinals on their Olympic journey.

This Olympic experience is always good for a guy like Korkmaz who will be entering free agency in August. If he can have a strong international showing after another solid NBA season with the Sixers, he can find himself his next deal in the league whether it be in Philadelphia or elsewhere.
