Sixers guard Furkan Korkmaz discusses reaction to injury, treatment

Philadelphia 76ers guard Furkan Korkmaz discusses his injury and the treatment he’s receiving.

The Philadelphia 76ers are a team that is still working out the kinks as they continue to move forward with a new team and a new coach in Doc Rivers leading the way. It is important right now for everybody to stay healthy and be on the floor.

Unfortunately for Furkan Korkmaz, he suffered an adductor strain in the third game of the season and he is out for a couple of weeks when the team will re-evaluate his injury.

“I was so mad,” said Korkmaz. “I was pissed off, to be honest, because it’s just the beginning of the season and it’s just a terrible position. It’s not something like a big injury, it’s just like something small, but it puts you out for a couple of weeks. So that’s why I was so pissed off but this happens. I got through a lot of things so I will get through this.”

Due to the injury being what it is, Korkmaz will have to work on his treatment and be able to rehab greatly before he returns to the court. The injury is in the groin area so that will affect a lot of what he does most on the defensive end of the floor when he has to get in a defensive stance.

“I’m getting some mobilization stuff with the PTs,” he explained. “I’m doing some kind of stretching to my groin to make it better. I’m lifting to make it stronger, to activate the groin, and activate the core. I’m doing lifting to stay strong. Also, on the court, I’m doing some stuff like to get lower to make my groin, better and stronger, and stay active.”

As mentioned before, the Sixers are a team that is still working out the kinks. They are trying to work on a bunch of different things such as rotations and things of that nature and it hurts Korkmaz that he is out right now, but there is a way that he is staying engaged with the team.

“I’m watching older tapes,” he finished. “Even when I don’t play, I am watching all the players that we’re going to play against. I’m watching the team clips, the lecture runs in practices, I do my stuff before or after. So I’m around the team. I talked to the guys, I talked to the coaching staff, even when I don’t play, I plan on watching the plays which we’re going to play tonight.”

The Sixers return home on Saturday and they will take on the Charlotte Hornets at 7:00 p.m. EST.
