Sixers guard Danny Green out with finger injury, Isaiah Joe set to play more

Philadelphia 76ers guard Danny Green is out for a bit and it will give Isaiah Joe a chance to play more.

CAMDEN, N.J.–As the Philadelphia 76ers navigate through these final 18 games of the season heading into the playoffs, they will have to handle another injury thrown their way in the form of Danny Green.

The veteran out of North Carolina left Monday’s win over the Chicago Bulls with a left middle finger laceration and he was able to practice with the team on Wednesday, but his fingers were wrapped. It looks like Green will be out for a little bit as they prepare for the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday.

“No update,” said coach Doc Rivers at practice. “Right now, he’s just out until you see him again, I guess. Hopefully, he’ll be back soon.”

This is just another bump in the road during the season for Green as he has been dealing with hamstring issues, calf issues, he had a bout with COVID, and now the finger injury. It has been a tough season for him to really find his rhythm or anything of that nature.

“It’s tough for everyone,” said Rivers. “Probably for a vet, they know how to process through it a little bit easier, but him, Shake (Milton), a couple guys have had the same kind of season like that, but he’s fighting through it.”

With Green out, and the tough play of Furkan Korkmaz lately, that means Isaiah Joe will likely get more of a look in the rotation. Joe played over Korkmaz on Monday and with Green out as well, the second-year shooter out of Arkansas is ready for another chance.

“Just going out there and doing what my team needs me to do,” said Joe. “Don’t try to do too much, stay within myself. For me, they want me to shoot the ball and play solid defense and that’s what I’m gonna do out there each and every night so just really focus on that right now.”

Joe is only shooting the ball at 33.1% in his second season, but playing next to James Harden more often should do wonders for him.

“He does an excellent job finding shooters,” said Joe. “Nine times out of 10, he’s doing the work for you. You just gotta knock down the open shot. I think you see how Georges Niang and Tyrese Maxey benefit off of it. They get a lot of wide-open shots and they shoot a really good percentage. Now with the new crack in the rotation, I can be able to knock down those same shots.”
