Sixers forward Tobias Harris is making strong case to be an All-Star

Philadelphia 76ers forward Tobias Harris is making his case to be an All-Star in the 2020-21 season.

The NBA is not sure whether they will hold an actual All-Star game in 2021 due to the global pandemic, but they will honor the All-Stars either way and the Philadelphia 76ers have the case to honor a few players as All-Stars.

The top two are Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons and those two will most likely be an All-Star in 2021, but the other one is Tobias Harris. The veteran out of Tennessee is quietly putting together one of the better seasons of his career averaging 20.1 points and 6.7 rebounds while shooting a robust 46.1% from deep and 52.5% overall.

“All three should be in,” laughed coach Doc Rivers. “That would be my case. They’ve all played just unbelievable basketball for our team. We got a great record so if we keep winning, that’ll take care of itself. I’ll put it that way.”

Harris also saved the Sixers on Wednesday night when he drilled a game-winner with three seconds left to lift Philadelphia past the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers 107-106. He has taken a huge leap under Rivers and he has cemented his status as the team’s third-best player and the third scorer that they need on a nightly basis as well as becoming a much better defender.

For a guy who has consistently been a good offensive option, the veteran still has yet to make an All-Star game in his career.

“Me for myself, I’ve always just been about winning and letting that handle itself, but I’ve been playing consistently at an All-Star level every now and then,” said Harris with a smile. “I want to always to move on, but in the past, I’ve had a couple of times where I felt like I should have been there, and didn’t make it. So that would be my little pitch.”

Embiid made a case for Harris to be an All-Star in the past and he again believes that he should be there along with himself and Simmons.

“We’ve all been consistent,” said the big fella. “Obviously, being first in the East also helps the candidacy to all be All-Stars, but we’re winning. We’re doing it as a group, and we all deserve a chance.”

Harris will have to battle talented wings in the East such as Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown as well as the likes of Giannis Antetokounmpo and others, but Harris has definitely made his case to be an All-Star this season. His strong play has been as important to their success as anybody else’s.
