As the Philadelphia 76ers prepare for the upcoming 2020-21 season, they will obviously need Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid to lead the way.
However, there will also be a lot of eyes on Tobias Harris who will be entering the second season of a 5-year max contract.
The Sixers acquired Harris at the 2019 trade deadline after he shot a ridiculous 43.4% from deep and he averaged 20.9 points with the Los Angeles Clippers. He then shot only 32.6% from deep the rest of the season in Philadelphia and he shot 36.7% from deep in the 2019-20 season.
“I think when you look at those types of statistics of playing in LA, the thing that comes out the highest is the 3-point shooter percentage increase,” said Harris. “That was the type of shots I was getting the type of rhythm I was getting so, obviously, different team different groups, but those type actions are things that helped me get into a flow.”
The guy who coached Harris with the clippers was Doc Rivers who is now coaching this Philadelphia team. Rivers assessed Harris’ season and said that he dribbled way too much and the hope is now that he can get Harris to get back making quicker decisions.
“I know what he brings to the table,” Harris said of Rivers. “He’s going to hold us accountable, he’s going to be really somebody who’s going to motivate and push us to get where we want to go. He understands the talent level with this group and understands our capability. I think myself, I’m personally happy and everybody else being able to have a little bit of time around him thus far is exciting.”
Harris will be a key piece to the team’s success. He’s almost like the X-Factor as everybody knows what Simmons and Embiid bring to the table, but Harris will be the difference-maker in games as he looks to make an impact on this team. [lawrence-related id=39878,39874,39871]
