The NBA announced on Friday it had fined the Philadelphia 76ers $100,000 for violating injury report rules related to Joel Embiid’s return against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Sixers upgraded Embiid two hours before the start of the contest after he had been listed as out and missed their shootaround earlier on game day on Tuesday. The fine also considered Philly’s history with injury report chicanery.
After a two-plus month absence, the reigning MVP returned from meniscus surgery. Embiid finished with 24 points on 6-of-14 shooting, seven assists and six rebounds. He shot 12-of-12 from the free-throw line.
The Thunder — without Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams — lost a close contest to the Sixers. The short-handed squad had a trio of quality looks from deep to tie the contest in the final seconds that all fell short.
