Sixers’ Doc Rivers named East Coach of the Month for January

Philadelphia 76ers coach Doc Rivers takes home the Eastern Conference Coach of the Month award for January.

Philadelphia 76ers coach Doc Rivers receives a great deal of criticism, fairly or unfairly, from the fan base in Philadelphia, but there is no question the guy understands how to coach and how to win in this league.

The future Hall of Fame coach led the Sixers to an 11-3 record in January, including an impressive 5-0 road trip to the West Coast. On that road trip, the Sixers trailed the Sacramento Kings by as many as 21, but rallied to win despite missing Joel Embiid and James Harden due to injury management. In recognition of the team’s success, Rivers was named the Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for January.

Denver Nuggets coach Michael Malone took home the award in the Western Conference.

Rivers and the Sixers will now be looking to continue their winning ways in the month of February. Philadelphia will begin a three-game road trip on Friday when they pay a visit to the San Antonio Spurs.
