The Philadelphia 76ers will head back on the road to take on the Houston Rockets on Monday, but they will be doing so without the help of their starting point guard who remains in health and safety protocols.
Tyrese Maxey entered the protocols before the team’s first matchup with the Rockets back on Jan. 3 and he has now missed three straight games with this next one set to be his fourth missed game. He still has to go through the protocols and be sure he is ready to go to come back and rejoin the team in a healthy way.
“He’s still out,” said coach Doc Rivers at practice on Sunday. “He’s still trying to get through the protocol. It’s just all protocol. Everything is always protocol now with the league. You gotta reach certain numbers.”
When asked if Maxey is actually feeling sick or anything, Rivers did say he is feeling OK.
“No,” said Rivers. “He feels fine.”
The Sixers do have a group chat amongst the players where they will check in on each other to be sure guys are feeling better and be sure that they are not feeling alone or anything while. Maxey did mention in the chat that he is itching to come back and play.
“He’s feeling better,” said Furkan Korkmaz. “I think there’s something with his numbers. The league is looking to get some numbers and then he can rejoin the team. I think he’s healthy, he’s doing much better. He just wants to play. Even I the practices, he’s coming in and working out when he was healthy. That’s his mentality right now. He just wants to play.”
Maxey’s next opportunity to return will be Wednesday when the team returns home to host the Charlotte Hornets.
