WILMINGTON, Del.–The Philadelphia 76ers have a lot of proven talent on their roster as they continue to contend for a championship in the 2022-23 season. They also have a lot of young players on the roster who continue to need development as they move forward with their plans.
Isaiah Joe is one of those guys as he enters his third season with the team. He has a non-guaranteed contract that doesn’t become guaranteed until opening night on Oct. 18 and he did not play in the team’s previous preseason matchup on Wednesday.
Following the team’s Blue X White scrimmage in Delaware on Saturday, coach Doc Rivers gave his thoughts on Joe and how far he has come as they move forward with the young guard.
“Just keep developing,” Rivers said of Joe. “Great shot, he’s getting a better understanding. It’s been a little unfair to him, in some ways, in camp because he’s been on that third or fourth unit at times, and he’s needed to be the point guard, and that’s not what he is, but when we move him in with the first group or the second group, he tends to perform better because now he’s coming off picks and making shots and that’s what he does.”
With two preseason games left for the Sixers, Joe will have to continue to grow as a player and continue to understand his role on the offensive end. He knocked down three triples in the preseason opener when he revealed that the game has begun to slow down for him and now he just has to continue to build off of it.
