When the Philadelphia 76ers knocked off the Chicago Bulls on Friday night, it clinched the best record in the East for the first half of the season. That means that coach Doc Rivers and his staff will be heading to State Farm Arena to coach Team Durant in the All-Star game on March 7.
However, in a season that is so jam-packed with games basically every other day in order to fit the season in before the 2021 Olympics, Rivers would rather not have to be in Atlanta over the break. He would much rather use the time to relax and get ready for the second-half run to the playoffs.
“I prefer to golf over All-Star break let me put it that way,” said Rivers with a laugh. “It’s an honor, because that means your team’s doing well, so that’s always good. That’s the way I look at it.”
Rivers then added that he wishes the honor was that he choose somebody else to coach the game since his team does have the best record in the conference, after all.
“I think the honor should be, we win and then I get to pick whatever coach I want to coach the All-Star game from another team,” Rivers continued laughing. “I think that would be hilarious.”
Who would Rivers prefer? Oh, probably San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich.
“Probably Pop,” he finished. “It would be it would be awesome.”
Nonetheless, Rivers and his staff will be heading to Atlanta on March 7 for the game where Joel Embiid will also be with him after being voted in as a starter.
