Sixers clinch playoff spot when Nets fall to Cavaliers at home

The Philadelphia 76ers have officially clinched a playoff spot due to the Brooklyn Nets falling to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Philadelphia 76ers have punched their ticket to the NBA playoffs. The Sixers are 48-23 and have surged toward the top of the Eastern Conference standings. They are in third place behind the Boston Celtics and the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Sixers are idle on Tuesday night after they fell to the Chicago Bulls at home on Monday, but they clinched a playoff spot with help.

The Brooklyn Nets fell at home to the Cleveland Cavaliers, 115-109, which clinched a spot for the Sixers. Philadelphia heads to Chicago to face the Bulls on Wednesday to kick off a four-game road trip.

This is the sixth consecutive season the Sixers have clinched a playoff spot. The last time they missed the playoffs was in the 2016-17 season, Joel Embiid’s rookie season.

With Embiid and James Harden leading the way, they’re looking to win their first title since 1983. They’re also looking to become another Philadelphia team to reach the finals in their sport in the past year after the Union in Major League Soccer, the Phillies in Major League Baseball and the Eagles in the NFL. None of those three teams won the title in its respective league.
