The Philadelphia 76ers have been thin at the big man spot recently as they are still missing superstar Joel Embiid due to his bone bruise and they did not have the services of Tony Bradley and Vincent Poirier due to the Goerge Hill trade.
The only real big man on the roster was veteran Dwight Howard and coach Doc Rivers likes him coming off the bench with the second unit. So he has had to rely on Mike Scott to fill the starting center role for the time being.
The Sixers have been relying on Howard a lot to provide the only size they really have on the roster at the moment. However, the 17-year veteran has been ejected in each of their previous two games after picking up two quick technical fouls. That has left Philadelphia very small in those moments.
“I can’t get no more techs,” said Howard with his head in his hands at practice on Monday. “I know it might seem like I’m being selfish, I’m not thinking about it but, my first thought, my second thought, my third thought is about this team. I want us to win. I don’t want people to get it twisted as though if I’m getting these technical fouls that I want to go against the team.”

Being in the league for as long as he has, it is disappointing to see him lose his cool for two straight games at a time when the Sixers really need him the most. At this point, it is more about making sure that he gets it done on the floor and provide some size.

“I will be better,” said Howard. “I love this team and I won’t do anything to personally hurt this team. I want to see it succeed in the best way possible. For me, personally, I just got to make sure I keep my head in the game and not allow opponents or anybody to throw me off my goal which is to help this team win. Other than that, I think we’ll be fine.”
The Sixers will move on to face the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday at Ball Arena to continue their 6-game road trip.
