Sixers All-Star break report: Mike Scott has struggled off the bench

We now review Mike Scott’s season with the Philadelphia 76ers.

This is a new series by Sixers Wire to pass the time for everybody for the All-Star break. We’re going to take a look back at the 3 goals series from the offseason and see how each player has done in achieving those goals as well as give them a rating on how their season has gone. The rating will be based on a scale of 10 with 10 being how their season has gone based on the goals.

After first reviewing a few guys who have been at the end of the bench for the Philadelphia 76ers, we now take a look at somebody who has been in the rotation and is a fan favorite: Mike Scott. The Sixers have been relying on Scott to provide an edge and provide shooting, but he has struggled in the shooting department.

With that said, we’ll now take a look at Scott’s season based on the 3 goals given in the offseason:

Doing the little things

In a way, this has been what Scott has done all season. He comes in, he does the little things like setting screens to get guys open or grabbing a big offensive rebound. He never has been the big scorer or the guy who takes games over offensively or anything. Mike Scott is a hustle guy.

So when you see his averages of 5.5 points and 3.4 rebounds in 17.2 minutes a night, that’s what he does. He gets down and he does the dirty work to make sure his team comes away with a win on any given night. He has provided in this area.

Providing an edge

This is another thing that Scott does. He’s tough, he gives a spark, and he provides that edge to make sure his team does not back down from anybody. He protects his teammates if they feel they have been wronged and he also is not afraid to let his team knows if they have been soft or they aren’t performing up to par. It’s understandable to think that the Sixers forward can give more offensively, but this is who he is. This is his role.

Taking care of the youngsters

Scott has also done this. His screen setting to make sure Furkan Korkmaz and the other shooters on this team get open is big. He has been big for Zhaire Smith and Norvel Pelle as well. The young guys on this team have looked at him as an example and he has provided.

The big thing that is hurting this team is the fact that Scott is only shooting 34.1% from deep this season and he is shooting only 31.9% from deep over the last 17 games. That is one area that has to get better to give the Sixers some more spot-up shooting off the bench.
