With the 2021-22 season schedule out and teams looking at what the season could bring, we take one last look at the 2020-21 season and some of the top moments for the Philadelphia 76ers.
For this edition, we take it back to a regular-season game in February in Salt Lake City. The Sixers took on the Utah Jazz but did not have big man Joel Embiid, who was a last-minute scratch due to injury. Somebody had to provide the scoring in his place.
Normally, that would be Tobias Harris, but in this case, Ben Simmons stepped up to the challenge. The All-Star point guard went to work for a career-high 42 points as he relentlessly attacked the rim looking to score and get the Sixers in a good position. He had 12 assists and nine rebounds, but it was not enough as the Sixers fell to the Jazz 134-123.
It’s performances like this that leave most scratching their heads about Simmons. He obviously has the talent to put up high numbers in the scoring department such as this one, but he just refuses to do so. While Philadelphia does not need him to score 42, it would be nice for him to average somewhere between 18 and 22 points a night.
