There are a few different ways the Philadelphia 76ers could go about the 2020 NBA Draft. They can stay at the 21st overall spot they are currently in and hope one of the elite shooters in the draft falls to them, they can go after a backup point guard, or they can even trade up.
At 21, the options are around guys such as Grant Riller of Charleston, Tyrell Terry of Stanford, or other players among those types of builds as a shooter and a playmaker. However, there is one under the radar player that popped up in the latest mock draft done by The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie.
Vecenie has the Sixers selecting RJ Hampton who chose to go pro in New Zealand rather than go to college and he had himself a solid season. Standing at 6-foot-5, he has good length and Vecenie can see Hampton working out for Philadelphia, but he can also see them trade up.
Vecenie on the pick of Hampton:
The 76ers need guards, and this would represent one with a relatively high upside falling to them. This pick could be all over the map though, and it wouldn’t stun me if they tried to consolidate some of their picks to try to move up. Nos. 34 an 36 are valuable picks for some team.
The Sixers badly need to find a shooter for this roster which is something Hampton is not. He shot 29.5% from deep for the Breakers this season and that is a percentage that will not cut it for this team. What he can do is put the ball on the floor and he can create for himself and others which is another need of this team.
Philadelphia will most likely be active in the trade market due to the lack of funds in the free agency game and they will probably be very active leading up to the October 16 draft date. [lawrence-related id=37395,37377,37378]
