The Philadelphia 76ers are continuing to prepare for an uncertain draft as almost everything will be done virtually. They have already begun their preparation with a couple of interviews with players who will definitely fit their needs.
One of those players was TCU’s Desmond Bane who said that he received a “lot of interest” from the Sixers during his interview. He shot 44.2% from deep in his senior season with the Horned Frogs which allowed him to finish up at 43.3% from deep for his career in college.
Bryan Kalbrosky of our sister site, Rookie Wire, has put together his latest mock draft and he has Bane going to Philadelphia at 21:
The draft needs of the Philadelphia 76ers, who will look to complement franchise stars Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid, can be summarized in one word: shooting.
TCU’s Desmond Bane averaged 16.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.5 steals per game in 2019-20. His best trait was 3-point marksmanship, as he shot 44.2% from beyond the arc. Bane averaged 1.07 points per possession on jump shots off the dribble, per Synergy Sports, a figure which ranked in the 92nd percentile nationally.
He has shown teams he is worthy of first-round consideration and explained why (via HoopsHype):
“I make shots. I defend. I rebound. That’s my game, really. But I make shots in a variety of ways, whether it is off the bounce or on catch-and-shoots or running off screens. Or I find my teammates after a shot fake, and they are in the lane and someone is open. And then I play with a high motor on the defensive end. So even if I am giving up length or giving up quickness, I’m going to be able to use my frame and my motor to get the job done. I bring a lot to the table that can help me really contribute right away.”
Bane, who says there is “a lot of interest” from Philly, is one of the best shooters in this draft class.
Not only can Bane really shoot it from deep, but he also can put the ball on the floor and create for others. He averaged 3.9 assists in his senior season to go along with 16.6 points and 1.5 steals. He is a multi-faceted player who can do plenty of different things and that should excite coach Doc Rivers and general manager Elton Brand if he is on the board at 21.
