Sixers 2020 free agency: Pelicans guard E’Twaun Moore provides 3-and-D

A Philadelphia 76ers 2020 free agency option is New Orleans Pelicans guard E’Twaun Moore.

The Philadelphia 76ers are heading into an interesting offseason as they look to get back on track following a tough 2019-20 season. The team had a lot of expectations due to the fact that they have two young stars in Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid.

However, the team was not able to thrive due to not being able to space the floor properly for them to succeed on the offensive end. That is something that must be addressed in the 2020 offseason as they try not to waste the talent that they have.

The Sixers only have $6 million to spend in the upcoming free agency and one option to look at is New Orleans Pelicans guard E’Twaun Moore. He is a guy who can play some good perimeter defense, which will be paramount playing for new coach Doc Rivers, and he is a career 39% shooter from deep. He is exactly what this team needs and he would fit the team’s price range.

Bleacher Report added this on Moore to Philadelphia:

Philly’s plans for free agency could be summed up in the headline of a classified ad: “Cheap shooters wanted.” The Sixers are diving head-first into the luxury tax, which amplifies any offseason expenditure.

“Using their taxpayer mid-level exception on somebody who can actually shoot would be hugely expensive—the contract would only be $5.7 million but including the increased tax penalty it would cost the Sixers $26 million,” The Athletic’s John Hollinger wrote.

That’d be massive money for E’Twaun Moore, but then again, he’d be arriving to address a massive shooting shortage. Since Ben Simmons doesn’t take threes and Joel Embiid makes them infrequently, the Sixers should be overloaded with spacers in their supporting cast.

The Sixers really don’t have a choice when it comes to free agency. They are going to be in a tough position due to the lack of cap space and the reduced cap due to the pandemic and the league not being able to operate for a few months. Moore is a guy who can make it all worth it if he can come in and knock down shots the way JJ Redick and Landry Shamet did in the past. [lawrence-related id=38227,38224,38219]
