With the decommitment of G.G. Jackson last week, the UNC basketball program has just one commitment in their 2023 class. That commitment comes from five-star guard[autotag] Simeon Wilcher[/autotag] who has improved his stock over the past year, climbing into the Top 25 in recruiting rankings.
The New Jersey native is one of the better guards in this 2023 class and with Caleb Love likely gone after this year and potentially R.J. Davis as well, UNC will need to reload in the backcourt.
For Wilcher, he committed to UNC back in October of 2021 and his reasoning was simple: He wants to play on the biggest stage to make his dream come true.
Here is what Wilcher said about that in a recent article via Kevin Flaherty of CBS Sports:
“For me, it was really just putting myself on a stage where I feel like my dream would be able to come true. And at North Carolina, the stage doesn’t get bigger than that,” Wilcher said. “Even though I knew that Coach Hubert hadn’t coached a game yet, I knew he was a pro for a very long time, so he knows what it takes to win games and for you to become a professional. So I just trusted him in that. And then when I got on campus, it just felt right.”
Wilcher will have that chance to play on the biggest stage as UNC is still a national brand coming off an appearance in the national title game a year ago.
UNC will continue to play in big games throughout the year and land in primetime TV spots, allowing Wilcher to show off his skills and hopefully catch the attention of those at the next level.
