Sidney Jones acquires Jags’ highest PFF grade vs. Texans in first start

In his first start as a Jaguar, Sidney Jones was able to acquire the Jags’ highest PFF score of Week 5 after a strong game vs. the Texans.

The Jacksonville Jaguars didn’t give fans a lot to smile about this Sunday against the Houston Texans after sustaining their fourth-straight loss of the season. However, as we mentioned in our postgame piece, cornerback Sidney Jones balled out and was able to end the day with three tackles, four pass breakups, and a pick. That was also good enough to register him a grade of 91.6, which was the highest on the team.

With rookie CJ Henderson being ruled out with a shoulder injury and D.J. Hayden being placed on injured reserve last Wednesday, the Jags started Jones on the outside alongside rookie Chris Claybrooks. Tre Herndon, who normally starts on the perimeter, was kicked in to the nickelback spot for Hayden, giving the Jags a predominately new trio at cornerback.

Jones was a player who many were thrilled the Jags picked up on their practice squad after final cuts. As a former second round pick for the Philadelphia Eagles, many felt he had great potential but needed a change of scenery as injuries derailed him and caused him to never really settle in. That also resulted in him being ruled inactive at times, even when healthy.

While Week 5’s game was his only start with the team, it’s easy to see why fans would be encouraged by Jones, who was graded as a first-round talent as a prospect. A change of scenery seems to have revitalized Jones, and if he can continue to play as he did Week 5, the Jags would have a duo of starting cornerbacks to proceed into the future with when including Henderson.
