No. 11 Tennessee closed its play in the Shriners Children’s College Classic on a winning note Sunday, shutting out Oklahoma, 8-0, at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas.
Tennessee (10-1) scored one run in each of the first two innings against the Sooners (5-5).
Jordan Beck opened the Vols’ scoring with a solo home run in the top of the first inning. Tennessee extended its advantage to 2-0 when Jared Dickey drew a walk with the bases loaded in the second inning.
Tennessee scored three times in the third inning as an RBI single and a two-run homer by designated hitter Christian Moore made it 5-0.
Moore led the Vols’ offensive attack as he went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, three runs scored and two RBIs.
Tennessee closed its scoring in the eighth inning with two runs as Seth Stephenson had a scoring double and Blake Burke added a pinch-hit solo home run.
Pitcher Drew Beam improved to 2-0, pitching five innings. He surrendered two hits and one walk, while striking out six.
Will Mabrey, Mark McLaughlin, Ben Joyce and Redmond Walsh all appeared in relief for the Vols.
