Showcase Cinemas creating temporary drive-in movie theater at Gillette Stadium

Showcase Cinemas will open a pop-up, drive-in a movie theater outside of Gillette Stadium.

As summer begins and the National Football League tries to get underway, Gillette Stadium will still be a place where people can gather. Showcase Cinema announced on Tuesday that they will be opening up a pop-up, drive-in movie theater at the Showcase Cinema De Lux Patriot Place.

“Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark” will be the first film shown there. It has already sold out.

The full movie theater experience will be guaranteed, as patrons can pre-order concessions and get them via curbside pickup before the movie. Attending a movie here will also benefit a good cause. The proceeds of the tickets are going to be donated to the Foxboro Food Pantry.

Family-friendly films will be shown throughout the summer. “Onward ( June 5), “Trolls World Tour” (June 12) and “Sonic The Hedgehog” (June 19) will be shown there.

“Drive-ins are a big part of Showcase Cinemas’ 80-year history as the company was one of the first theater chains to introduce and embrace the drive-in concept throughout the 20th century,” Showcase Cinemas vice president of global marketing Mark Malinowski said. “This will be our first step towards reopening Showcase Cinemas with new health and safety protocols in the coming weeks.”

This is certainly an inventive way to make the most of this space. Hopefully we’ll see Patriots football sooner rather than later on these grounds.
