The San Antonio Spurs have shown significant improvement in recent weeks. Despite being the bottom-feeders out West all season, they’ve been very competitive, and a big part of it is the progression of star rookie Victor Wembanyama. The 20-year-old Frenchman already looks like one of the best players in the league.
Wembanyama is leading the league in blocks as a rookie and should be a perennial candidate for the Defensive Player of the Year award. But the season is over. From here on out, the games mean nothing for the Spurs. Devin Vassell and Jeremy Sochan are already out for the year. Should Wembanyama be next?
The Locked On Spurs podcast recently discussed whether or not the Spurs should shut down Wembanyama for the rest of the season.
On the one hand, the Spurs should want to prioritize Wembanyama’s health, but on the other, these games could be good experience for the youngster.
