Should the Boston Celtics be on the phone with the Detroit Pistons right now, inquiring about the availability of one Jerami Grant? The star Pistons forward has reportedly been a trade target of interest for the Celtics in the past under the tenure of former team president Danny Ainge, but those talks never amounted to much of significance.
Now, Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the Philadelphia 76ers have “engaged in ongoing discussions with the Detroit Pistons to acquire Grant, another forward, a young player, and a draft pick in exchange for” disgruntled Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons. Per Pompey, someone “close to the Sixers said the team would want a more high-profile player than Grant in exchange for Simmons”.
The takeaway here for Boston fans is that Grant might indeed be available given the talks are supposedly “ongoing,” and that there might be space to put something together that appeals to Detroit if Grant isn’t good enough for Philly GM Daryl Morey.

Presumably, it would still require a considerable package even considering that the 6-foot-8 forward is having an off year so far, but it is certainly worth making the call just the same.
