The Philadelphia 76ers have a bench problem. While the starting lineup is one of the best in the league led by star duo James Harden and Joel Embiid along with Tobias Harris and Tyrese Maxey, the bench unit has struggled.
The group had eight points in Thursday’s loss to the Detroit Pistons and went scoreless in the first half. Detroit was able to get 39 points from its reserves. Shake Milton scored the bench’s first points on a 3 late in the third quarter.
ESPN’s Tim Legler suggests the Sixers bring Maxey off the bench to provide a shot creator for that unit. It isn’t the worst idea in the world; the bench desperately needs some help in that area of the floor.
"100% needs to be done. I wasn't a fan of it first because of the year he was having, I think it would send the wrong message. Now you can go up to him and say we need you, we need punch of the bench, we have to have something in the second unit." – @LegsESPN on Maxey off bench

The Sixers could replace Maxey with Danny Green who has lost a step on defense, but he is a proven shooter who could potentially space the floor for Embiid and Harden. Meanwhile, Maxey could help galvanize the bench unit as the No. 1 scorer for that group.
