We take sports so seriously sometimes. It’s easy to see why. These leagues and the teams that play in them are all worth billions of dollars.
But in the end, they’re still just games. They’re meant to spread joy and to bring cheer to people. They connect us with others and allow us to express ourselves through sports. So anytime you’re able to actually give the gift of sports to someone it’s a pretty cool thing.
Shohei Ohtani is giving that gift to a whole lot of people in Japan.
The Major League Baseball superstar is gifting 60,000 baseball gloves to 20,000 elementary schools in Japan. He announced his plan with New Balance on Instagram.

Baseball is a huge sport in Japan, but it’s also one that can have some barriers when it comes to engaging with it. It requires a specific space to play and it also requires a bit more equipment than other sports.
For Ohtani to knock out, at least, one step of that here? That’s a really cool thing to do.
Shoutout to him for this. Let’s hope he gets a job soon to pay for all this, though. That man is unemployed right now.
