The Bears have a few weaknesses on their squad, as evidenced by their disappointing 8-8 record last season. But when it comes to glaring weaknesses, there’s one that everyone seems to agree on.
Bleacher Report believes quarterback — specifically Trubisky — is the Bears’ weakest link. Which isn’t exactly what you want to hear about your former No. 2 overall pick.
Trubisky didn’t finish among the top half of the league’s quarterbacks in any major statistical category last season. His 6.1 yards per attempt ranked dead last.
Chicago doesn’t just need to find a quality backup quarterback. Whomever the Bears sign must be able to push Trubisky and potentially replace him as the starter if the 2017 second overall pick doesn’t get on track.
The Bears have made it clear that their goal is to address the quarterback position by bringing in an experienced veteran to challenge Trubisky, the antithesis of Chase Daniel’s presence in Chicago over these last two seasons.
Chicago has already been linked to names like the Bengals’ Andy Dalton (who is a popular bet to land with the Bears), as well as the Raiders’ Derek Carr, who could be on the trading block depending on what happens in free agency.
While Trubisky wasn’t the only issue on an abysmal Bears offense, he was certainly the biggest. Chicago will likely bring in a veteran — or even a rookie — that can push Trubisky but could also replace Trubisky should his struggles continue.
