After the Colorado Buffaloes’ first game with Deion Sanders as head coach, the accolades are already coming in.
Quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who dazzled in his first game with a win over TCU on the road, was named the Walter Camp Football Offensive Player of the Week. North Carolina linebacker Kaimon Rucker was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
Where do we even begin? Sanders threw for over 500 yards, setting the Buffs’ single-game passing record in his first start. He helped four players finish with more than 100 receiving yards and led Colorado to its first win over a ranked opponent since 2019.
Sanders became the third Buff to win the award in its 20-year history. Terrence Wheatley (2007) and Nate Landman (2020) each won it once before, so this is a rare feat, but perhaps we will see it more often with these new-look Buffs.
It’s quite an honor and a terrific start for Coach Prime and his son. There should be many more positive accomplishments coming to this program for the foreseeable future.
