Ahead of his first season at Colorado, Shedeur Sanders was named to the 87th Maxwell Award Watch List on Monday.
The award is given annually to the most outstanding college football player of the year. Notable quarterbacks to have recently won the award include Joe Burrow (2019), Lamar Jackson (2016), Andrew Luck (2011) and Cam Newton (2010).
Sanders is entering his third collegiate season and his first in the Power Five after throwing for 3,732 yards and 40 touchdowns last year at Jackson State.
The Pac-12 had nine other representatives on the preseason watch list: Arizona’s Jayden de Laura and Jacob Cowing, Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. and Rome Odunze, Jaydn Ott (Cal), Bo Nix (Oregon), Damien Martinez (Oregon State), Cam Rising (Utah) and reigning winner Caleb Williams (USC).
