The hype around the Colorado Buffaloes football team is spiraling out of control. Quarterback Shedeur Sanders has become a national sensation and a Heisman Trophy contender.
Now, ESPN NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. ranked Sanders as the No. 3 QB on his 2024 big board (h/t Matt Connolly of On3). Kiper has Sanders behind only USC Trojans star Caleb Williams and North Carolina’s Drake Maye at the quarterback position.
While appearing on “Monday Blitz,” Kiper shared his belief that Sanders is a “guaranteed high first-round pick.” Here’s some of what else Kiper said regarding Colorado’s QB (h/t On3):
“I think when you look at the way he’s played at Colorado, in this Sean Lewis offense, the accuracy has been unbelievable. He was at 68 percent at Jackson State those two years. He’s at 77.5 [percent at Colorado]. Hasn’t thrown an interception. He had nine rushing touchdowns in two years at Jackson State. He can roll right or left. He can make accurate throws. He throws a great ball. He’s unflappable. He looks like he’s in control at all times. You don’t know if they’re up or down, how they’re performing. It doesn’t matter.”
Kiper went on to say that if Sanders stays at Colorado for another year, he will be like Williams — a consensus No. 1 overall pick.
Through his first two games with the Buffs, Sanders has thrown for 903 yards with six touchdowns and zero interceptions. He has the Buffs at 2-0 and climbing up national rankings.
Next up for CU is Colorado State and then a pair of massive Pac-12 battles with Oregon and USC.
