Shedeur Sanders becomes Colorado’s first Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award winner

Shedeur Sanders earned a prestigious individual award

Colorado football senior Shedeur Sanders is adding to his trophy cabinet. On Friday, the NFL-bound quarterback was named the 2024 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award recipient.

Sanders is the first Buffalo to win the Golden Arm Award, given annually to the nation’s top upperclassmen quarterback. The award not only factors in performance on the field but also “character, citizenship, integrity and those who honor the game,” according to the award’s website.

This marks the second straight year a CU player has earned a major college football award, following Travis Hunter’s 2023 Paul Hornung Award.

Sanders is enjoying an impressive final season in Boulder. He recently became the first CU quarterback to throw for 30 passing touchdowns in a season and owns the school record for passing yards in a regular season with 3,488 entering Friday’s finale.
