In a surprising move coming out of the bye week, the Indianapolis Colts parted ways with linebacker Shaquille Leonard, who got the frenzy started by posting his “Thank You” message on social media.
At first, it wasn’t clear what was happening. Initially, some thought Leonard was retiring. However, it was quickly revealed that the Colts waived Leonard, a decision that wasn’t mutual.
Still, Leonard sent a message to the fanbase and city full of gratitude for the six seasons he spent since being selected in the second round of the 2018 NFL draft.
Here’s a look at his message:

Leonard’s fire on the field and service in the community certainly will be missed. But the Colts made this decision based on the opposite direction both sides were heading. Leonard wanted more playing time, but the Colts weren’t comfortable giving him his old role back, especially after it was clear he hasn’t been moving the same since his injury-riddled 2022 campaign.
Leonard will be subject to waivers due to the trade deadline having passed, but it’s expected that teams will wait until he clears in order to avoid taking on the remainder of his contract.
Regardless, the end of The Maniac era has arrived as the Colts look toward the future.
