The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have several free agents hitting the open market this offseason, but one guy who likely isn’t going anywhere is linebacker Shaquil Barrett.
Barrett, the former Denver Bronco who signed a one-year deal with the Bucs last offseason, led the NFL with sacks this past season with 19.5, which was also good enough to break the single-season franchise record.
Barrett was a dominant force all year, earning Second-Team All-Pro honors and a trip to the Pro Bowl. You’d think a guy who led the NFL in sacks would easily make Pro Football Focus’ list of the top 101 players from the 2019 NFL season, or even its list of the most valuable additions in the 2019 season, but shockingly, Barrett was left off both lists.
The guy who finished second in sacks at 19.0, Chandler Jones of the Arizona Cardinals, came in at No. 47 on the list of top 101 players. It’s hard to fathom Barrett being left off these lists, considering how great he was this year and how great Tampa Bay’s pass rush was.
Even though he’s likely to land a big contract this offseason, Barrett will likely use these snubs as further motivation for him entering next season.
