Shannon Sharpe has never been shy about offering his opinions. He offered his take on Bill Belichick during a recent appearance on ESPN’s “First Take”, and he did not mince words.
He believes Bill Belichick’s legacy should take a little bit of a hit, as the Patriots have not had much success since the departure of Tom Brady.
Belichick’s record is 26-29 since Brady left New England in 2020. The Patriots are currently sitting at the bottom of the AFC East with a 1-3 record. It is fair to question at this point whether Belichick’s success, especially in New England, was a byproduct of the greatest quarterback of all time.
“You are absolutely right, it deserves to take a hit, and I’ve been one of those guys that have said that coach Belichick deserves a lot more of the credit than Tom Brady,” Sharpe admitted. “But, I was foolish in my assessment of this. It’s becoming more and more apparent to me that Tom Brady was largely the reason why the Patriots won. Because you see, he goes to another team and they win. Coach Belichick has struggled to win without Tom Brady.”

It may be a tough pill to swallow for New England fans. However, with the way this season has started, this line of thinking isn’t unreasonable.
The season is far from over, but the Patriots have struggled out of the gate, and the schedule does not get any easier from here on out. New England is set to take on the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. ET.
