Shai Gilgeous-Alexander got ‘help’ from Carmelo to make the weirdest layup you’ll see

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is so hot right now that even when an opponent hits the ball out of his hands, it finds a way to go in.

The third-year Oklahoma City Thunder guard made one of the weirdest layups you’ll see against the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday. As he drove, the ball appeared to be blocked by Carmelo Anthony, and Gilgeous-Alexander tried to reach behind himself to regain control.

The ball wasn’t behind him. It was high in the air. It arched down into the basket.

It was … something.

Anthony raised his hand to show that it was his fault that the ball went in. He was also on fire on Monday; maybe the combined magic of him and Gilgeous-Alexander helped propel the ball into the hoop.

That was Gilgeous-Alexander’s 18th point of the game, and he had 21 at the end of the fourth one 8-for-9 shooting, if you want to call that a shot attempt (the box score does). Anthony entered the fourth quarter with 17 points.
